These Terms govern your use of WhatiMeme at whatimeme.wtf (the “Service”), operated by whatimeme (“we,” “us”). By using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
WhatiMeme is a meme-literacy tool. Browsing the template library, writing captions by hand, using the Canvas editor without Grok, and exporting images are free and require no account. AI-assisted actions consume credits as described below.
Paid features require signing in with an X account. You are responsible for activity under your account. We identify you by your X account ID; we do not receive or store your X password and do not post on your behalf.
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms. If we terminate an account for a reason other than a violation, we will refund unused purchased credits.
A generation is one completed AI action. Completing the guided AI meme workflow, running “In Grok I trust,” or editing an image with Grok Imagine costs 1 credit. “Meme the News” costs 2 credits because it finds a trending story and produces opposing memes. An “𝕏 Post Reaction” costs 1.5 credits.
Purchases are sold through Link using Stripe Managed Payments. Link acts as merchant of record and handles transaction-level payment support, fraud, disputes, and applicable indirect-tax calculation, collection, filing, and remittance. Checkout, receipts, and card statements identify Link’s role.
A credit is deducted only when an action succeeds. Failures, errors, and safety refusals cost nothing. For “Meme the News,” a failed story search costs nothing; if the search succeeds and at least one meme is produced, the full 2 credits are charged.
Credits have no cash value, are not transferable, and are not a stored-value instrument. We may change future prices or credit costs. Previously purchased credits keep the terms under which they were bought.
AI output is generated automatically and is not reviewed before you see it. It may be inaccurate, unfunny, or unsuitable. Buying credits buys the successful actions described above, not a specific creative outcome. The Service depends on third-party AI providers; you are not charged when an affected action fails.
You keep ownership of images you upload and memes you make. You grant us only the limited license needed to process them, including transmitting them to our AI provider to perform the action you request and holding them briefly to deliver the result.
You must not use the Service to create sexual content involving a real person or content sexualizing minors; harass, threaten, defame, or impersonate anyone; deceptively depict a real person saying or doing something they did not where a reasonable viewer would believe it genuine; infringe intellectual-property rights; or break applicable law.
Satire, parody, and commentary on public figures are permitted. Do not depict a private individual without consent or create deceptive or degrading depictions of anyone. You are responsible for having rights to reference images you upload.
To report content or an account, email whatimeme.wtf@gmail.com. We may remove content or suspend accounts. Templates may originate from third parties or public sources; you are responsible for how you use what you create.
The Service is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $5 USD. Nothing limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new date and, for subscribers, notified before the next billing period. These Terms are governed by the laws of Maryland, United States, and Maryland courts have exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting mandatory consumer rights where you live.

This policy explains what whatimeme collects when you use WhatiMeme at whatimeme.wtf and why. Browsing and manual editing happen in your browser and are not sent to us. AI-assisted actions are different: they send your text and relevant images through our server to xAI. We do not sell personal data or run advertising.
xAI receives content needed for AI actions and may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and auditing; X provides sign-in and learns that you signed in; Stripe and Link provide checkout, receipts, order and subscription management, transaction support, fraud/dispute handling, and tax compliance; and Namecheap hosts the Service. These providers handle data under their own terms and policies. We otherwise disclose data only when legally required.
We process data to perform our contract by providing requested actions and managing credits; for legitimate interests such as security, abuse prevention, and cost control; and to meet legal obligations such as accounting recordkeeping.
You may request access, correction, deletion, a portable copy, or object to processing by emailing whatimeme.wtf@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days. Account closure forfeits unused credits, which are not refundable on voluntary closure. UK and EU users may also complain to their data-protection authority.
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. Because the cookie is strictly necessary to provide a requested service, no consent banner is shown.
The Service is not for children under 13 or the minimum age in their country. We do not knowingly collect their data; contact us and we will delete it.

The digital service is supplied by whatimeme. Purchases are sold through Link using Stripe Managed Payments, with Link acting as merchant of record and providing transaction-level payment and subscription support. Refunds are issued through Stripe/Link to the original payment method.
A credit is deducted only when an action succeeds. Failures, errors, and safety refusals cost nothing. If you believe a failure consumed a credit, email whatimeme.wtf@gmail.com with the approximate time and we will investigate and restore the credit when appropriate.
Unused credits qualify for a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Partially used packs qualify within 14 days for a pro-rata refund of unspent credits; delivered generations are not refundable. After 14 days, credits remain usable indefinitely but are no longer refundable.
Cancel at any time through the Link account associated with the purchase, available from the account menu or receipt. Cancellation stops future charges, and remaining credits stay available until the paid period ends. Unused subscription credits do not roll over and are not refunded when a period ends.
If you cancel within 14 days of your first payment and used no credits during that period, we will refund it in full. If you used credits, we will refund the unused portion pro rata. Renewals are not refundable once a period begins unless the Service was substantially unavailable.
This policy is in addition to, and does not limit, statutory rights. Where withdrawal rights apply to digital services, by starting a generation you ask us to supply the service immediately and acknowledge that the withdrawal right is lost for credits already spent.
Contact Link transaction support for disputed charges. For product or credit issues, contact us first so we can investigate. Accounts with an open chargeback may be suspended until it is resolved.
To request product-level help or a refund, use Link transaction support or email whatimeme.wtf@gmail.com with the X account used, purchase date, and reason. We respond within 3 business days. Link may also issue refunds under its Managed Payments terms and policies.

Postal addressYour credit balance appears in the header after sign-in. To buy credits or subscribe, visit Pricing. A failed generation should not consume a credit; email us with its approximate time if it did.
To cancel or manage a subscription, use “Manage purchases with Link” from your account. Use the Link account associated with the purchase; your receipt also provides access. Charges may appear as LINK.COM* followed by the configured statement descriptor. Contact Link transaction support about an unrecognized charge, or email us with the statement date and amount for product-level investigation.
Credits are tied to your X account, not your browser. Sign in with the same X account if your balance appears missing.
Email us with “Report” in the subject and include a link or description. We review every report and may remove content or suspend accounts. Copyright reports should identify the material, provide your contact information, and include a statement of good-faith belief.
Email us with “Privacy request” in the subject to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of your data. We respond within 30 days. Account and credit records are deleted or de-identified within 30 days after we verify a closure request, except transaction or legal records we must retain.

You've seen them. You've laughed at them. You've probably sent a few. But most of us never stop to ask why a particular picture plus a few words can feel so instantly right — or why the same picture with different words falls completely flat.
This short page teaches you to read memes the way fluent speakers read sentences — then you'll write your own.
Read the 3-minute lesson first
A meme is not simply “a funny picture with text.” A meme is a pattern that people keep reusing and changing while still recognizing the original. The picture becomes a shared shortcut. New people add new details. The conversation continues.
The recognizable picture. It already carries an emotional tone and a rough situation — you don't invent the feeling, the picture brings it.
The real-world knowledge or shared experience the audience brings. Without overlap, a caption is just words floating on an image.
Your new caption — the specific detail that plugs into the template's existing situation. The best ones feel surprising and inevitable.
Before writing one, practice reading. Look at any template and ask three questions:
Strong memes rarely fight their own image. The text and the picture agree on the emotional weather — then the text adds the precise storm.
A — weak
“When life is hard”
Could apply to almost anything, so it means almost nothing. Vagueness is the most common way captions fail.
B — stronger
“When your alarm goes off and you realize you already used your one sick day”
Specific, slightly odd, widely felt. Specificity creates recognition — “I thought I was the only one.”
Describe the moment, take, or punchline, then choose how much of the creative process you want Grok to handle.
AI actions send your situation and any reference images used through this server to xAI.
You collaborate with Grok. Select a frame from 3 suggestions and review its caption and image-edit suggestions before applying them.
Grok one-shots the meme. It chooses the frame, writes the captions, and may apply a visual edit.
Back the take or challenge it. Turn a public X post into an editable reaction meme.
No prompt needed. Grok picks a top trending news story, finds two opposing takes, and builds a meme for each side.
Find a frame for what you want to say.
Submit any meme format to the shared Templates library. Copy a prompt into Grok, paste the answer back, and this page turns it into a working template — caption areas, guidance, and examples.
When you submit a completed template, its image and template details are saved to this site's shared library. The browser that submits it can manage it later.
A blank template — not a finished meme. It stays in this browser while you work; submitting the completed template sends its image and details to this site's shared library.
This asks Grok for everything the app needs, in a shape it can read back.
Markdown, YAML or JSON all work. Imperfect formatting is fine — anything that can't be read is kept for you to fix by hand.
Drag each box onto the right part of the image, or focus a box and use the arrow keys (hold Shift to resize).
Submitting saves this image and template information to the shared library.
The browser that submitted a template can edit or delete it later. Other shared templates are read-only.
Learn how this template works, then open it in Canvas to write and design your meme.
Open in Canvas to add your own captions and design the meme.
See how each example uses the picture’s built-in joke. Open the blank in Canvas when you are ready to make yours.
