A head-and-shoulders studio portrait of a middle-aged Black man with short hair and a thin mustache. He wears a blue-green button-down shirt and faces slightly toward the viewer’s left against a plain gray background, wearing a subtle closed-mouth smile/smirk.

How to write this meme

Write a short, specific setup in the top that anyone can picture, then let the bottom line be the quiet, slightly smug thought the face is already making. Keep both lines punchy and under two short sentences total.

Caption zones

  • Top text — Sets up the situation, trigger, or claim being reacted to
  • Bottom text — Delivers the punchline, internal thought, or smug conclusion that matches the expression

Example captions

  • Top text: When the group chat goes silent
  • Bottom text: After I drop the perfect meme

Matches the subtle smirk of quiet victory after a social win.

  • Top text: Boss says “quick question”
  • Bottom text: It’s never a quick question

Relatable workplace dread delivered with deadpan confidence.

  • Top text: Me explaining crypto to my parents
  • Bottom text: They still think it’s Monopoly money

Contrast between the explainer’s smugness and the parents’ total disbelief.

  • Top text: When someone says they’ll be ready in 5 minutes
  • Bottom text: Starts a whole new skincare routine

Everyday timing frustration paired with the knowing side-eye smile.

  • Top text: My bank account after payday
  • Bottom text: My bank account after one online order

Classic expectation-vs-reality money joke that fits the mild smirk.

Common mistakes

  • Making both lines too long or story-like
  • Using a setup that doesn’t match a knowing/smug reaction
  • Forcing pure rage or pure sadness onto a mild smirk face
  • Repeating the same joke structure in every caption
  • Putting the punchline on top and the setup on bottom
