How to write this meme

Keep the top text a clear, specific situation people instantly recognize, then let the bottom text deliver a short, flat “that’s not allowed” reaction. Don’t over-explain; the armor stare does the heavy lifting.

Caption zones

  • Top text — Sets up the situation, action, or rule being broken
  • Bottom text — The punchline reaction, usually a variant of realizing or declaring something is illegal/not allowed

Example captions

  • Top text: When the group project has one person who did all the work
  • Bottom text: Wait that’s illegal

Instantly recognizable school/work unfairness paired with the deadpan call-out.

  • Top text: Free trial ends so they charge you $79 without asking
  • Bottom text: Wait that’s illegal

Channels shared rage at sneaky subscriptions with a simple reaction.

  • Top text: Using the office microwave for fish
  • Bottom text: Wait that’s illegal

Escalates a minor social crime into mock-legal outrage for absurdist humor.

  • Top text: My cat knocks the glass off the table then stares at me
  • Bottom text: Wait that’s illegal

Applies courtroom energy to everyday pet chaos; highly relatable.

  • Top text: Speedrunning the terms of service by hitting “agree”
  • Bottom text: Wait that’s illegal

Self-deprecating jab at something everyone does while pretending it’s fine.

Common mistakes

  • Writing a long story instead of a tight setup
  • Changing the bottom text so much it loses the “illegal/not allowed” energy
  • Putting the punchline on top and the setup on bottom
  • Using vague setups no one can relate to
  • Forcing unrelated jokes that ignore the reaction format
