6 or 9 meme template

6 or 9 is a meme format on WhatiMeme. Two people or groups looking at the exact same thing and reaching opposite conclusions because of where they stand. Used for stubborn arguments, confirmation bias, and “both of us are technically right from our angle” situations.

Black-and-white line drawing of two men facing each other and pointing down at a large numeral on the ground between them. The left man (balding) has an open mouth and a speech bubble with 6. The right man has an open mouth and a speech bubble with 9. The numeral is drawn so it reads as 6 from the left and 9 from the right.

How to write this meme

Name one concrete thing both sides are looking at. Keep the two labels short and clearly opposed. The 6 and 9 already carry the visual joke, so your text only has to identify the situation and the two stubborn viewers.

Caption zones

  • Top text — Names the shared situation, object, or fact both sides are looking at
  • Left label — Who the person seeing 6 represents
  • Right label — Who the person seeing 9 represents

Example captions

  • Top text: The group chat after I left
  • Left label: Me
  • Right label: Everyone else

Same messages, opposite vibe checks; classic “I didn’t say anything weird… did I?” panic.

  • Top text: That one customer review
  • Left label: The owner
  • Right label: The customer

Each side is certain their reading of the same paragraph is the only reasonable one.

  • Top text: I’ll be there in 5 minutes
  • Left label: The person waiting
  • Right label: The person who’s late

Universal timing fight; the promise is identical, the clocks are not.

  • Top text: The movie we just watched
  • Left label: Me
  • Right label: My film-bro friend

Two people sat through the same scenes and walked out with opposite “obvious” plots.

  • Top text: Last night’s leftover pizza
  • Left label: Me at 11pm
  • Right label: Me at 8am

Same person, same pizza, opposite verdict depending on hunger versus regret.

Common mistakes

  • Writing a paragraph instead of short labels
  • Giving the two sides two different objects to look at
  • Spelling out “it’s all about perspective” in the caption
  • Using labels that are not actually in conflict
  • Putting the entire punchline in the top text so the drawing has nothing left to do
