How to write this meme
Pick one topic and make four versions of it. Start ordinary, then raise the stakes in clear steps. Save the impossible or slightly unhinged version for the red face. If you can swap two middle lines without anyone noticing, the ladder is too flat.
Caption zones
- Top panel — The mildest, most ordinary version of the topic
- Second panel — A clearly better or more appealing version
- Third panel — A surprisingly great version that feels like a jump
- Bottom panel — The absurd peak that breaks him
Example captions
- Top panel: Leftover pizza for breakfast
- Second panel: Fresh pizza delivered hot
- Third panel: Pizza and the game is on
- Bottom panel: Unlimited slices, no one judging
Each line is the same craving, just less restrained, so the red face lands as pure pizza bliss.
- Top panel: Meeting moved to email
- Second panel: Meeting canceled entirely
- Third panel: Whole afternoon blocked off
- Bottom panel: Boss says go home early
Office relief escalates in steps everyone recognizes, and the last line is the fantasy payoff.
- Top panel: Found a dollar in the couch
- Second panel: Refund hits the account
- Third panel: Forgot about a gift card
- Bottom panel: Tax return bigger than expected
Free money gets more surprising each step, matching the face from smirk to scream.
- Top panel: Cat sits near you
- Second panel: Cat chooses your lap
- Third panel: Cat falls asleep on you
- Bottom panel: Cat brings you a toy
Cat affection is famously rare, so the final “gift” reads as a historic event.
- Top panel: Code runs on the first try
- Second panel: Tests all pass
- Third panel: Review approved with no notes
- Bottom panel: It still works on Friday
The last line undercuts programmer optimism, so the scream is both triumph and disbelief.
Common mistakes
- Putting the best line on an early panel
- Using four unrelated jokes instead of one escalating idea
- Describing the facial expression instead of a situation
- Making the bottom line only slightly better than the third
- Writing paragraphs that will not fit on the panel
